Since the style of the senior project this time is very different from what we used to have before, I was really excited to participate in the actual actions such as having meetings not only with professors but also the people from local association, helping out organizing events for local association and expand it’s stories or culture to others or even connecting global with local together to send some valuable messages to people. At the beginning of the project, it was really hard to find out the ultimate goals of the project. Each of our group members had different ideal thoughts which had really stopped us from taking a further step to make progress and also made us waste some time at the beginning. However, I was glad that we eventually found out our common ideas and worked as a great team together.
Through out the procedure of this project, I have learned so many things that I would have never gotten chances to learn. Since it was a huge project which we all had to cooperate with people well to carry on, I have learned how to make good conversation with others and how to work with people with different characteristics. Also, it was my very first time to interact with people who are related to local association and foreigners workers. I have been watching news or reading articles about them but never had opportunities to truly participate in any of the events. Therefore, I really appreciate that I could have this chance to take actions and directly help the people who are being hidden by stereotypes and misunderstanding and living a life under the unequal treatment. I really hope that in the end of our project, there will be more people who are willing to care the serious issue of immigrant workers in Taiwan and spread the message of respecting from one to another. No matter what country a person is from and where the person is living in, they all should deserve their own human right. In the first semester, I think we haven’t done much for the immigrant workers. We have only helped them with organizing events. Hopefully in our next semester, we can pay more focus on brining the global back to local to make Yilan a better place and hold more events for the immigrant workers to make them feel like home even they are working hard everyday in an unfamiliar place. I can’t wait to see the changes in those immigrant workers lives and I will definitely make more effort to make our project a even more interesting and powerful to let people now what the students from ELC are doing for this society.
